Poker in New Hampshire No-Rake Home Games Could Be Legal By January

Welcome to the 21st Century, New Hampshire.

New Hampshire’s legislature voted 19-0 to recommend the passage of a bill that would finally legalize no-rake home games in the state. That’s right, as of today – in the state that bears the motto “Live Free Or Die” – it is currently illegal to hold a standard home game with you and your friends.

“An informal game among friends has been illegal in New Hampshire,” said the bill’s sponsor, Rep. George Lambert, R-Litchfield as reported by the Eagle Tribune.

While cops may not be busting down doors like they were in Arizona, lawmakers still recognize the need to get this outdated law off the books.

“[The police] could come in to arrest you for a nickel-dime-quarter game.” Lambert said

Should all go according to plan—and the bill has little opposition—a no-rake, no-admission, not-advertised game of skill will no longer land you in the pokie.

House Bill 459 is set to be heard by the House during its session on January 8th.
