A new partnership has allowed 888poker to debut new biodegradable poker chip bags at all future 888 LIVE events.

The rollout of these eco-friendly poker chip bags will start during 888 LIVE Barcelona, which kicks off on May 12.

By changing the style of bag to one that will biodegrade, 888 has helped remove approximately 130 kilograms of plastic from circulation.

888 is working with ECOSEC to make shunning single-use plastic a reality for poker players at its live poker events.

“It became clear to me that chip bags are essential for securing poker chips and in a tournament organizer’s processes, but that my organization could have a global impact in improving environmental awareness across the industry,” Karim Louis, CEO of ECOSEC said via press release.

“These new biodegradable bags are a bold invention, enabling players to post about their progress on social media in the usual way while also doing their bit for the environment. We’re very much looking forward to delivering these new bags to 888 for the first time and to continuing to partner with them at future events.”

The online poker tournament series exceeded expectations, smashing guarantees across all three states (Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey), amassing almost $2 million more than the combined $4.5 million guarantee.
