African Poker Championship Makes Tanzania Debut With $500K Guarantee Slate

Le Grande Casino in Dar es Salaam will host the inaugural APC stop, headlined by a $1,000 Main Event with a $200,000 guarantee.

The African Poker Championship is set to make its first stop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at Le Grande Casino on Samora Ave, with the inaugural festival running from September 24 through October 4. The 11-day schedule carries more than $500,000 in guarantees.

The centerpiece is a $1,000 Main Event with a $200,000 guarantee. According to PokerNews, the Main Event is the flagship tournament of the launch festival and runs from September 30 through October 4, with three starting flights and survivors returning for Day 2 at noon on Saturday, October 3.

The opening slate also includes a $125 Main Event Super Satellite on September 25, a $1,500 Grand Slam Mega Stack with a $100,000 guarantee, and a $300 DeepStack with $50,000 guaranteed. Later in the schedule, players will find a $2,000 Single Day Mini High Roller with a $50,000 guarantee, a $5,000 Super High Roller, and a two-day $3,000 APC High Roller that carries another $100,000 guarantee.

Other listed events include a three-flight PigaBet Survivor Bounty, Turbo and SuperStak action, and Pot-Limit Omaha in the form of the $300 Le Grande Bomb Pots Double Board event on October 1. The first APC champion is due to be crowned on Sunday, October 4.

PokerNews says the series is powered by MJPT Global and was created with the goal of bringing together poker communities across Africa, showcasing the continent’s talent, and building events that can draw players from around the world. For Hendon Mob flag chasers, the debut also offers a first chance to add a Tanzanian flag while the tour is still brand new.
