Rivers Casino Des Plaines paid a $659,942 bad beat jackpot after a 10-high straight flush lost to a higher straight flush in a $1/$3 no-limit hold’em cash game. The jackpot’s biggest beneficiary was the player whose hand lost: that player received $329,974.70, or half of the $659,941.70 prize pool.
The winning player collected $164,985, plus the pot. The other six players who were dealt into the hand each received $27,497, sharing the remaining 25% of the jackpot.
SpadePoker described the losing hand as 7♦6♦ on a board of 8♦, 6♣, 4♣, 10♦ and 9♦. That made a 6-to-10 straight flush. The winner held J♦Q♦ for the higher 8-to-queen straight flush.
Rivers’ rules require the losing hand to be at least quad tens and require both players to use both hole cards. A bad beat jackpot is a poker-room promotion paid when a qualifying premium hand loses to an even stronger hand; the losing player receives the largest portion under Rivers’ structure.
A CardPlayer account agreed on the jackpot total, payout split and straight-flush-over-straight-flush result, but included a conflicting description of the losing player’s cards and board. The SpadePoker version supplies a complete hand sequence consistent with the stated 10-high losing straight flush.
The payout followed another major Rivers bad beat milestone in August 2022, when its Pittsburgh sister property paid a $1.226 million jackpot at $1/$3 no-limit hold’em tables. That hand saw Benjamin Flanagan’s quad aces lose to Raymond Broderson’s royal flush.
After the Des Plaines jackpot was paid, the room’s bad beat prize pool reset to $250,683.60.
