Onyx High Roller Series Opens $25,500 Main Event
Three starting flights and a $5 million guarantee anchor the headline event as the festival runs toward Aug. 16
The $25,500 Main Event begins at the Onyx High Roller Series in Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa in Northern Cyprus, and it carries a $5 million guarantee. The tournament sits in a festival that began on Aug. 7 and runs through Aug. 16.
The first of three starting flights began at 1 p.m. local time. Day 1b follows on Aug. 12 at 1 p.m., and the turbo Day 1c starts that night at 9 p.m.
Players start with 200,000 chips and enter at 500/1,000 with a 1,000 big blind ante. The first two flights use 40-minute levels, while the turbo flight runs with 20-minute levels. Rather than a set number of levels, each flight plays until only 15% of the field remains, and those survivors bag for Day 2.
The wider schedule, outlined earlier by PokerNews, stretches from $5,200 up to $50,500 and carries more than $10 million in guarantees across No-Limit Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha events. It includes the $10,400 Mystery Bounty with a $1 million guarantee, the $5,200 PLO Bounty on Aug. 9, the $15,300 NLH 6-Max on Aug. 13-14, and the $10,200 Bounty on Aug. 15-16. The $50,500 Onyx High Roller Championship closes the series.
The rules package also bans sunglasses, masks, scarves, and any intentional face covering when a player has live cards, and shot clocks are in use from the start of every event. Fahredin Mustafov won the Main Event from a 227-player field a little under 12 months ago and collected $1.3 million. Survivors return for Day 2 at 1 p.m. on Aug. 13, when levels stretch to 60 minutes, and the champion is decided the following day.
