Choctaw WSOP Circuit Enters Final Days in Durant
More than 8,000 players have already shown up for the 13-day stop, with about 11,000 expected by the weekend’s end.
Choctaw Casino and Resort’s World Series of Poker Circuit stop in Durant, Oklahoma, is in its final days, with the 13-day tournament set to wrap up Monday. More than 8,000 players have already come through, and the casino expects around 11,000 by the end of the weekend.
The series has been drawing players to the Durant property for about 15 years. Table Games Manager Lance Hicks said the main event stands out because it has the biggest buy-in, the biggest prize pool and the most glory attached to it, and he said winning it is different from taking any of the other titles.
The main event carries a $1 million prize pool. Hicks said the tournament is open to players regardless of experience, and that it brings in people from beyond the local area who stay, eat and spend time in the Texoma region.
He also said most players pay to stay at the hotel and get a discount for playing in the tournament. Veteran player Jason Moncier had a blunt warning for newcomers: “Hang on to your wallet.”
Even if people cannot make it before the tournament ends, Hicks urged them to still stop by the poker room. KXII reported a year earlier that Choctaw was hosting the circuit for the 14th time and had drawn about 9,000 players, and Hicks said the next circuit event is scheduled for the end of October.
