Frank Covich Leads Record Kentucky Main Event Into Day 2
The $800 RGPS Golden Expedition stop hit a $424,200 prize pool, while the bubble burst after a long wait on Day 1e.
Frank Covich entered Day 2 of the RunGood Poker Series Golden Expedition Kentucky Main Event with the chip lead after bagging 630,000 in Day 1e, and 74 players were set to return on Monday, Sept. 7, at The Barrel Social Club in Franklin. The $800 event had already turned into a record-size stop, with a $424,200 prize pool.
As covered in August, RunGood brought the Golden Expedition to The Barrel Social Club for Sept. 1-7 with 11 ring events and a $250,000 Main Event guarantee. According to PokerNews, that guarantee was beaten before cards were even in the air, and the first-ever RunGood Main Event at The Barrel produced the largest ever prize pool in Kentucky.
Covich finished Day 1e well clear of Joel Cocanougher, who bagged 457,000, and Christopher Borinsky, who ended on 415,000. Day 1e sent 15 players into Day 2 in the money, and the final flight was still due to add 16 more names to the return list.
The bubble took almost an hour to burst. It ended when Matthew Clark shoved on a 7♥ Q♠ J♣ flop with K♦ Q♦ and ran into Covich’s A♣ A♦, which held through the J♥ turn and 6♥ river. Play resumed at 12:15 p.m. local time, with 40-minute levels to close out the event and breaks every two hours.
