Negreanu Books Montreal WSOP Super Circuit Stop
He says the Canada trip is locked in, with Vancouver next and a first WSOP Circuit ring still the target.
Daniel Negreanu said his Canada travel plans are booked, with Montreal first for the WSOP Super Circuit at Playground before he heads to Vancouver to stream the GGPoker WSOP Main Event and other events. He also said a September reality-show filming opportunity fell through and may come back next year. The eight-time WSOP bracelet winner said he is still hoping to win his first WSOP Circuit ring, and he described the trip as one of his last poker stops before becoming a father.
As covered on Aug. 20, the first Canadian WSOP Super Circuit stop is set for Aug. 26 through Sept. 12 and brings 18 ring events plus more than CA$14 million in guaranteed prize money. GGPoker places Playground in Kahnawake, Quebec, while PokerStake described the destination as Montreal. GGPoker also called it the first WSOP Super Circuit event in Canada and the first of its kind in North America.
The marquee event is the CA$5,000 Main Event with a CA$10 million guarantee. PokerNews said it uses six starting flights across the first weekend of September, and GGPoker added that the festival includes a Sept. 2 meet-up game reserved for Main Event qualifiers, with Negreanu and Michael Mizrachi among the players they can face.
The schedule stretches from $500 buy-ins up to a $25,000 Super High Roller, with formats including no-limit hold'em, progressive knockouts, pot-limit Omaha and Mystery Bounty. Other headline events include a CA$500,000-guaranteed Mini Main, a CA$2,300 Super Circuit Championship and a CA$400,000 Mystery Bounty with three Day 1 flights between Aug. 29 and 31.
