The Santa Monica Police Activities League raised more than $50,000 for local youth programs through its annual Charity Poker Tournament, held Oct. 17 at the Santa Monica Moose Lodge. The fundraiser drew 90 participants for an evening combining poker, dinner and other fundraising activities.

Moe Ansari won the tournament title, while Clipper Darrell, described as a Los Angeles Clippers superfan and community personality, emceed the event. Eula Fritz, PAL’s director, thanked players, sponsors and community supporters for helping fund opportunities for young people, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press.

Tournament proceeds will support PAL’s free after-school programs and activities. PAL serves youth ages 6 to 17 through educational, recreational, fitness and leadership programming, with a mission that includes building positive relationships between Santa Monica youth and law enforcement.

The City of Santa Monica says PAL’s free after-school programs are available to young people who live in Santa Monica or attend the city’s public schools. The programs provide educational support, college preparation, leadership development and fitness training, while connecting participants with community resources and opportunities to develop social and life skills.

PAL is a public-nonprofit partnership operated by the City of Santa Monica and led by a volunteer nonprofit board. The city says board fundraising support helps sustain the organization as a resource for young people in Santa Monica.
