Can Poker Be The Cause of Bad Premier League Performance?

Research by Professor Graeme Law and his team of researchers at the University of Chester have found “English Premier League players have been underperforming on the pitch because of concerns about losses incurred during poker games”.

The professor said that “players were unable to function to the level expected, and this leads to resentment in the team about their gambling”.

Only 34 past and present professional footballers were interviewed as part of the study, so I am not sure it proves conclusively that this is systemic poker problem faced by the Premier League, but Professor Law’s study seemed think so. What do you think?
