France’s Simon Wiciak Wins PokerStars EPT Barcelona Main in an Epic Fashion

Another EPT Barcelona Main Event is in the books, and it was another great showing by PokerStars. The tournament became the second-largest EPT Main in the history of the tour with 2120 entries.

Of those 2120, one name will be etched in poker history — that of Simon Wiciak. The Frenchman managed to remain the last man standing in the tournament, and he did so in an epic fashion, clinging on to the chip lead for three days straight, culminating in a stunning hero call to wrap things up.

The win was good for €1,134,375, by far the largest prize for the Frenchman, whose biggest score prior to Barcelona was the $44,000 he got for a deep run in this year’s WSOP Main Event. It was, indeed, the stuff that (poker) dreams are made of.

This is the first time since 2018 that an EPT trophy will be traveling to France, and Wiciak himself was lost for words after his triumph. Despite a dominant performance throughout the tournament, he admitted in the winner’s interview that it was an emotional rollercoaster all the way until that final card hit the felt.

The pressure clearly didn’t get the best of the latest EPT champion, though, as he was able to maintain his composure and make an excellent call when it mattered the most, putting a perfect read on his opponent.
