Bo Hoebe Beats Nacho Barbero for Second WSOP Circuit Ring in Madrid

The €207,000 Main Event winner overcame a 3:1 heads-up deficit after Barbero’s short-stack surge at Casino Gran Vía.

Key points
  1. Hoebe won €207,000, a second WSOP Circuit ring and a $5,000 WSOP Paradise package in Madrid.
  2. The Main Event drew 918 entries and created a €1.16 million prize pool, though one tournament recap lists 916 entries.
  3. Barbero went from ninth in chips to a 3:1 heads-up lead before Hoebe doubled twice and won with the higher full house.
  4. PokerNews calls the champion Bo Hoebe, while SpadePoker identifies him as Jay Hoebe.

Bo Hoebe won the €1,500 WSOP Circuit Madrid Main Event at Casino Gran Vía, defeating Nacho Barbero heads-up for €207,000, his second Circuit ring and a $5,000 WSOP Paradise package.

The tournament generated a €1.16 million prize pool from 918 entries, with Barbero taking €130,000 as runner-up. Tom-Aksel Bedell earned €90,000 in third and Cristobal Ochoa Aguilera received €63,000 for fourth. One PokerNews tournament-page recap lists 916 entries, but the event report and other coverage put the field at 918.

As we reported Nov. 1, the Main Event reached its nine-handed final table with Hoebe holding roughly one quarter of the chips in play. He started that day with 12.26 million chips, while Barbero was the short stack on 2.43 million.

Barbero quickly reversed that position, moving from last to first during the opening two levels. His early run included a double-up with ace-queen against Fausto Munz’s ace-jack, before he eliminated Munz in eighth and Cesar Montanes Alonso in seventh.

The Argentine then built a 3:1 lead once play reached heads-up, but Hoebe doubled twice to retake control. In the deciding hand, Hoebe held queen-ten suited against Barbero’s king-deuce. The A-Q-2-2-Q board gave both players a full house, but Hoebe’s queens full beat Barbero’s deuces full.

Hoebe described the win as “a dream come true.” He said he had begun Day 2 with 30 big blinds and returned to poker in Madrid after taking a nine-month break, prompted in part by having spent two or three years grinding alone.

The result was Hoebe’s second Circuit title after a €36,999 ring win in 2023. He also won another tournament for €51,000 in the same month that year.

There is a naming discrepancy in the coverage: PokerNews identifies the champion as Bo Hoebe, while SpadePoker calls the winner Jay Hoebe. Both reports agree on the result, prize, runner-up and final hand.

Madrid was the first WSOP Circuit stop in Spain. The tour’s next listed stop is Middelkerke, Belgium, from Nov. 6-15, followed by Sanremo, Italy, from Nov. 20-30.
