The World Series of Poker added Solana buy-ins through MoonPay, with no processing fees. The change started at the WSOP in Las Vegas and will expand to WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas this December. In the Bahamas, winners will be able to take payouts in cash or stablecoins, with the stablecoin option running on Solana.

According to CoinDesk, the move brings cryptocurrency payments to WSOP’s global tournament circuit through the Solana Foundation. WSOP CEO Ty Stewart said the goal was to modernize payments for players, and he said Solana’s speed and efficiency match the pace of the tournaments. CoinDesk also said the rollout begins in Las Vegas before extending to WSOP Paradise.

PokerNews described the deal as a first-of-its-kind collaboration and said the Solana Foundation is the official presenting sponsor for both the 2026 WSOP in Las Vegas and WSOP Paradise. It also said players can pay buy-ins with cryptocurrency through MoonPay’s payment infrastructure, including through the WSOP LIVE app, which already let them skip cage lines. The report said the news came about two weeks into this year’s WSOP, which was underway at Paris and Horseshoe Las Vegas.

PokerNews also said that, for the first time in WSOP history, players could buy into tournament tickets directly using cryptocurrency. It said the foundation will select a group of prominent poker pros to act as Solana ecosystem ambassadors and host exclusive community events in Las Vegas and the Bahamas. The press release also said WSOP and Solana are developing collaborative onchain poker products for release in the near future.

A 2024 University of Nevada, Las Vegas paper on crypto in gaming said cryptocurrency payments are still a new phenomenon, with only a few jurisdictions choosing to regulate them. It said volatility in coins such as Bitcoin has slowed wider use across gambling, while stablecoins have created some room for crypto payments.
