Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship Moves Into Day 1b
Day 1a left Lewis Esposito in front at 425,500, with 24 of 89 entries advancing in the $2,700 event.
The Borgata Summer Poker Open $2,700 Championship has moved into its second of three starting flights after Day 1a left Lewis Esposito on top with 425,500 chips. The opening flight drew 89 entries and sent 24 players through to Day 2 at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.
Day 1a’s other biggest stacks were George St. Lawrence with 288,000, Eric Starker with 228,500, Colin Moll with 227,000 and Vittorio Abbate with 226,000. Abbate won his seat in a charity event in New York. Darren Elias finished with 79,000 and Brandon Mueller finished with 74,000.
The event is playing toward a $1 million guarantee. Each player starts with 40,000 chips, and each starting day runs 10 levels of 60 minutes. There are breaks after every two levels, plus a 75-minute dinner break at the end of Level 6.
The scheduling details were not perfectly aligned across the sources. PokerNews said the second flight was set to begin at 12:15 p.m. local time, while Borgata’s schedule PDF lists Day 1b for July 28 at 11:15 a.m. The same PDF lists Day 2 for July 29 at 11:15 a.m., while PokerNews put the Day 2 merge at noon.
The live coverage also noted that late registration remains open until the start of Day 2 and unlimited reentries are allowed through that point. It added that the series’ New Jersey history goes back to June 2008, when it ran with 14 tournaments, and pointed to a previous $2,700 Championship that drew 685 entries, built a $1,644,000 prize pool and saw Olivier Busquet win $255,135 after a heads-up deal with Abraham Gordon, with 87 spots paid.
