Philipp Gruissem Wins $200 WPT Global Festival Panama Event
Gruissem beat 138 entries for $5,650 and later showed up as the chip leader in a separate $350 PKO event.
Philipp Gruissem won the $200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em One Day event at WPT Global Festival Panama. He outlasted a 138-entry field and earned $5,650 from the $27,600 prize pool.
PokerNews reported that Gruissem now has more than $11.5 million in live tournament earnings. That total puts him 12th on Germany’s all-time money list. The report also said The Hendon Mob Database listed his previous cash as December 2023, when he finished in the money in the $5,300 WSOP Paradise Main Event for $8,500.
Gruissem reached the nine-handed final table with 1,800,000 chips at blinds of 15,000/30,000. That gave him 60 big blinds and almost twice as many chips as any other player still in contention.
Estefan Foster was the first player to fall. Mike Chapman went out in eighth place, and Carlos Aguad also busted before Daniela Orta exited in sixth after doubling through Fernando Arias with pocket jacks against ace-king and then bowing out.
Christian Correa finished fifth, which was his third in-the-money finish in Panama. He had already cashed in May in the WSOP International Circuit Panama $1,000 Mystery Bounty and $500 Closer ring events.
Gruissem then scored his first knockout when his ace-nine stayed ahead of Arias’ ace-six. He later eliminated Carlos Uribe with king-ten against king-eight, which sent him into heads-up play with a massive lead over Panamanian Alexis Zhu. Gruissem won the final duel and posed for the winner’s photo.
The same report added that Poker Noticias had Gruissem leading the $350 No-Limit Hold’em PKO event at WPT Global Festival Panama, with 172 entrants and 18 players left playing for a $7,900 top prize.
