Garrett Adelstein Plans a J4 Deep Dive Video
He says most of the evidence has never been public, while a memoir on the same controversy is also on the way.
Garrett Adelstein said he is preparing a documentary-style YouTube video that will break down the full Jack-Four story. He said he has put an “outrageous amount of time” into laying out the details and evidence around what he called the most controversial hand in poker history.
Adelstein also said nearly all of the material he plans to present has never been public. In his telling, the controversy still leaves open a basic question: who was in the wrong and who was in the right.
The J4 hand came from the Sept. 29, 2022 Hustler Casino Live stream. Robbi Jade Lew won a $269,000 pot after calling Adelstein’s semi-bluff for her remaining stack of more than $100,000.
Adelstein accused Lew of cheating, while the poker world split over whether she had cheated or simply gotten lucky. In the aftermath, he said he had no idea “an avalanche was coming” after the livestream accusations, quickly stacked about $2 million in chips, and left the casino without stopping at the cashier’s cage.
The fallout also pulled in Hustler Casino Live ownership, Jacob “Rip” Chavez, and Nick Vertucci. Adelstein said he was told the show was ready to go public with Ryan Feldman’s account of his request for money back, and he said Vertucci later suggested around 4 a.m. that he should return the money or things could get worse.
A separate investigation by High Stakes Poker Productions found no evidence of cheating in the hand or other alleged spots, according to poker.org. The review still said cheating with the Sept. 29 setup was possible, and Vertucci said the team found no evidence of wrongdoing but could not say with 100% certainty that none occurred.
That inquiry also looked at security around the stream. It covered a technical audit and dozens of hours of hands from multiple streams, and it concluded that the Deckmate shuffling machine was secure, the RFID system was safe, and there was no evidence that radio communication to the on-floor camera operator was an issue in the Lew-Adelstein hand.
PokerNews reported in March that Adelstein is also publishing a memoir, Beneath the Cards, on Sept. 1. He said that book will cover the Jack-Four hand, the controversy that followed, and the lasting impact it had on his life and the game.
The documentary-style YouTube video is slated for late 2026.
