Jordan Woodall Leads Day 1b of Onyx $25,500 Main Event
Boris Kolev finished second as the second flight sent 16 players on and the turbo Day 1c got going with 36 entries.
Jordan Woodall bagged the biggest stack in Day 1b of the Onyx High Roller Series $25,500 Main Event at Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa, finishing with 3,935,000 chips after a 106-entry flight sent 16 players on to Day 2. Boris Kolev was close behind on 3,700,000, and Ravi Sheth completed the top three with 2,300,000.
According to PokerNews, Woodall's late push came from applying pressure to shorter stacks and using the bubble to his advantage. As covered yesterday, Fahredin Mustafov had topped the opening flight with 3,555,000, while 17 players advanced from Day 1a.
The Day 1b bubble lasted about 45 minutes. Ponakovs pushed repeatedly during that stretch but never got called, and the final hand came when Aysar Batayneh moved all in for three big blinds and Kolev called in the big blind. The board ran out Kolev's way, bursting the bubble and sending the remaining 16 players into the money.
Several well-known names missed the cut, including Eelis Parssinen, Selahaddin Bedir, Mikita Badziakouski, Artur Martirosian, Timur Margolin, Alex Kulev, Nacho Barbero and Tom Middleton. Sergio Aido, who had finished 20th in Day 1a, came back to bag 1,580,000, while Alexey Borovkov finished with 880,000, David Coleman with 630,000, Dmitry Gromov with 575,000, Aleksejs Ponakovs with 280,000 and Matthew Wantman with 200,000.
With two starting flights complete, the turbo Day 1c was already underway with 36 entries and was set to play down to five survivors. Day 2 will use 60-minute levels, and the remaining players will return on Aug. 14 for the final day to battle for the title.
