Andrew Crookston led Day 1b with 1,278,000 chips, and the Arizona State Poker Championship later reached 2,881 total entries through three starting flights at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale.
As reported yesterday, the first two flights had already produced 1,767 entries, $1,767,000 for the prize pool and 212 bags. According to PokerNews, 951 hopefuls entered Day 1b, the second of four starting flights, and the final 114 players bagged for Monday’s Day 2.
Crookston, a Utah native with more than $500,000 in live tournament earnings, finished second on the overall leaderboard. Only one other Day 1b player crossed seven figures, Peter Fox with 1,106,000, while Sahib Purewal bagged 993,000 and Joseph Osterbauer finished on 915,000.
Day 1b ended with 5:40 left in Level 16 at 4,000/8,000 after hand-for-hand play began with 117 players left and 115 spots advancing. The bubble broke in a late double-knockout sequence, and the third flight added 1,114 entries and 134 more bags, lifting the running total to 2,881.
