Farbod Nazari Wins WPT Cyprus Championship for $368,900
The 520-entry event ended with a six-high straight, a Champions Cup inscription, and Nazari’s biggest live score
Farbod Nazari won the 2026 WPT Cyprus Championship at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino, taking down the $3,500 Main Event for $368,900. The score also included a $10,400 seat to the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas, and it put Nazari’s name on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.
The event drew 520 entries and built a $2 million prize pool. The top 65 finishers got paid.
According to World Poker Tour live updates, Day 2 added 122 entries to push the field to 520, and after 10 levels only 45 players were still in the hunt. Earlier in the event, Day 1B had reached 269 total entries, with registration still open through the end of the first break on Day 2.
By the time the tournament reached its finale, only six players remained. PokerNews said Mihai Trofim went into the final table as chip leader with 6,225,000, while Sergiu Cornea had 1,325,000. SpadePoker reported that Nariman Yaghmai finished 9th for $36,000 and Bernardo Neves was the final table bubble boy in 7th for $56,500, leaving the six finalists all locked up for at least $73,000.
Three-handed play ended with Weiran Pu, Chadi Rizk, and Nazari. Nazari called Pu’s all-in when Pu was drawing dead, sending Pu out in third for $175,000 and giving Nazari a 16,350,000 to 9,575,000 chip lead over Rizk heads-up.
The finish came in back-to-back big pots. On hand No. 114, Rizk got a runner-runner straight to double and deny Nazari the title. On hand No. 115, Rizk limped, Nazari raised, and after Rizk shoved for 7,950,000 on the flop, Nazari snap-called with a six-high straight and held through the turn and river bricks.
Rizk finished second for $238,000, while Pu took third, Mihai Trofim finished fourth for $130,000, Sergiu Cornea was fifth for $97,000, and Sami Ayyoub placed sixth for $73,000. CardPlayer said the win was Nazari’s biggest live score, topping the $22,581 he earned for 33rd in the 2025 EPT Prague Main Event, and it earned him 1,260 points in the 2026 Card Player Player of the Year race.
PokerNews put Nazari’s lifetime live earnings at $474,991 after the win, while CardPlayer said the Cyprus title pushed him over $415,000.
