Ari Engel won the $1,300 WPT Cambodia Championship at NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, beating a field of 391 entries in the No-Limit Hold’em event and taking home $91,444 after a heads-up ICM deal with Adi Agarwal. Once the money was settled, the two ran a single flip for the trophy, and Engel came out on top.

PokerNews reported that the event built a $500,000 prize pool. As part of the deal, Engel also locked up a $10,400 seat in the WPT World Championship, while Agarwal secured $81,610.

Michael O’Neill had entered the day as the chip leader and applied pressure throughout the final table. Bekzhan Rasulov went out first in ninth, Aleksei Zhukov finished eighth, Benhur Ybarsabal was seventh, Mangalam Seksaria sixth, Rindra Norodom fifth and Hendrik Uibo fourth before O’Neill bowed out in third for $43,811.

SoMuchPoker said Engel entered the final day with just 18 big blinds and that the day lasted about six hours. A key swing came when he was all in against O’Neill with pocket queens, picked up a river save and doubled to stay alive. He later climbed into the chip lead in three-handed play, then won a massive pot against O’Neill with the better kicker to reach heads-up play.

Engel and Agarwal then went back and forth, with Agarwal climbing to about 5.8 million chips before they checked the numbers and agreed to the ICM payout. The event also closed out WPT Cambodia: Passport to the World Championship, a 13-day festival at NagaWorld that featured 70 events and more than $1 million in guarantees, and Engel said he would love to come back for the January series.

The win pushed Engel’s recorded live tournament cashes to just over $10.1 million. Poker.org noted that his run of cashes stretched back more than 19 years, to a 40th-place finish in the 2006 WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic, and that he had already tied Miami John Cernuto at the top of The Hendon Mob’s all-time cashes list.
