Sam Soverel Scoops $335,900 Pot on High Stakes Poker LIVE Day 3

A three-way cooler against Nick Cassavetes and Dean Geistlinger ended with two bustouts and a $289,900 night for Soverel.

Sam Soverel turned Day 3 of High Stakes Poker LIVE into a huge score, dragging a $335,900 pot after flopping top set against Nick Cassavetes’ bottom set and Dean Geistlinger’s nut-flush draw. Both runouts missed, and the hand ended with Cassavetes and Geistlinger out of the game.

The action took place at $200/$400 in the PokerGO Studio, with Soverel, Rick Salomon, Chino Rheem, Randall Emmett, Dean Geistlinger and Cassavetes all in the lineup. Cassavetes, a film director, writer and producer whose credits include Blow and The Notebook, had also appeared before on High Stakes Poker and PokerStars’ The Big Game. According to Poker.org, the Day 3 table brought a heavier dose of money and gamble after the shorter Day 2 session.

The featured hand started with an $800 straddle in front of Geistlinger. Cassavetes limped, Emmett came along, Salomon raised to $4,000, Soverel called from the small blind and Geistlinger called from the straddle, then Cassavetes called again and Emmett put in the extra $3,200.

With $20,900 already in the middle, the flop was described as looking “straight out of a film script.” Soverel made top set, Cassavetes made bottom set, and Geistlinger had the nut-flush draw, a setup the report called a “powder keg.” Cassavetes led for $7,000, Emmett and Salomon folded, and Soverel raised to $26,000. Geistlinger then moved his $81,400 stack in, Cassavetes shoved over the top, and Soverel called.

That created a $335,900 pot, and the players ran the turn and river twice. Geistlinger was still live to his flush and Cassavetes needed a one-outer, but both boards bricked. Soverel scooped the full pot, both opponents left after the hand, and he finished the night as the biggest winner with a $289,900 profit.
