Ondrej Goetz Wins WSOP Circuit Bratislava PLO Title
The Czech player turned a sixth-place start into €106,800, plus a gold ring and a $5,000 WSOP Paradise package.
Ondrej Goetz won the €1,800 PLO Championship at WSOP Circuit Bratislava, taking €106,800. He also collected a gold ring and a $5,000 WSOP Paradise package after beating Valter Proia heads-up.
The championship was Ring Event #5 and carried a €500,000 guarantee. Poker.pro said the event drew 272 entries and built a €485,000 prize pool, with 41 players advancing to the final day and everyone already locked into at least €4,080.
Goetz began the final table in sixth place and kept climbing. Poker.pro said he entered heads-up after eliminating Kevin Goršič with a 2-to-1 chip lead, then watched Proia flip the script and build a 5-to-1 advantage before Goetz fought back.
The title match lasted more than two hours. In the final hand, Proia shoved K♥Q♠9♥4♣, Goetz called with A♣K♦5♠3♠, and the board ran J♣2♠T♣T♥5♣ to leave Proia second for €71,100.
The final table had a distinctly European feel, with two Czechs, two Slovenians and two Bulgarians among the nine finalists. Kevin Goršič took third for €48,950, Nikola Minkov fourth for €44,450, Jan Maule fifth for €24,790, Borislav Bogdanov sixth for €18,260, Harald Casagrande seventh for €13,760, Damir Alidzanovic eighth for €10,630 and Attila Zab ninth for €8,410. Poker.pro said the win was the best result of Goetz’s career.
