WPT Global Rises Above CoinPoker After Cash-Game Data Is Added
New SharkScope tracking lifted WPT Global to fourth in the PRO Score rankings and revealed a cash-game footprint closer to PokerStars than tournament entries suggested.
WPT Global has moved ahead of CoinPoker into fourth place in Poker Industry PRO’s online poker room rankings after cash-game activity was added to its traffic data. The newly complete picture lifted WPT Global’s PRO Score from roughly 1,500 to around 2,000 before it settled at about 1,870 in the latest snapshot.
Pokerfuse reported that WPT Global had previously been represented in PRO DB only by multi-table tournament entries. SharkScope Analytics has since begun tracking its cash games, revealing a much larger cash-game component than the tournament-only figures indicated.
The update also produced an all-time high PRO Score of 2,082 at the end of August on a 30-day moving average. WPT Global now sits just ahead of CoinPoker, at a little over 1,800, while iPoker is sixth on 1,458.
PRO Score is a blended metric that weights cash-game strength and tournament volume into one comparable ranking number. Where cash-game data is unavailable, tournament entries are used to scale a network’s score so it can still be compared with fully tracked operators.
Poker Industry PRO launched PRO DB on April 13 in partnership with SharkScope Analytics. In a press release, Game Theory Optimal said the platform provides daily data for tracked networks across cash games and tournaments. For most operators, its cash-game figure is average concurrent players, including fast-fold tables, while its tournament measure is total daily entries.
The database tracked 35 networks at launch and describes coverage of 75 active online poker networks and almost 300 individual sites. Its methodology is published on PRO DB alongside date-stamped notes covering data-feed additions, changes and tracking issues.
The ranking remains headed by GGPoker on a PRO Score of 12,450, followed by Winamax at 5,040 and PokerStars at nearly 3,200. WPT Global’s 1,870 score leaves it well behind the top three, but its cash-game figure of 1,833 is much closer to PokerStars’ 2,274, a gap of about 24%.
The tournament comparison is far wider. PokerStars averages about 178,900 MTT entries, compared with WPT Global’s 73,300, or roughly 144% more. The contrasting measures underline why adding cash games materially changed WPT Global’s position.
WPT Global’s traffic has a substantial Asian component through network partners, even as the operator has sought to expand in Europe and Canada. Its games, guarantees and buy-ins are denominated in Chinese yuan, and its tournament schedule is designed around Asian player preferences. WPT Asia Overdrive ran in August with ¥200 million, or more than $20 million, in guarantees.
Pokerfuse said WPT Global’s growth had plateaued over the past couple of years while PokerStars moved ahead in the rankings. The cash-game data update gives a fuller view of WPT Global’s overall traffic mix and shows it is significantly larger by traffic than PartyPoker and 888poker.
