Irish Open Sydney Main Event Sets Sept. 6-14 Run With A$1 Million Guarantee
The debut Australian stop features six starting flights, a remote Dublin feeder and close to A$2,000,000 in festival guarantees.
The Irish Open Sydney Main Event is set for Sept. 6-14 at Poker Palace Sydney, with a A$2,000 buy-in and a A$1 million guarantee. The event has six starting flights, including two turbo flights, and the champion is due to be crowned on Sept. 14.
According to the Irish Open’s June 18 schedule announcement, the Sydney festival runs from Aug. 31 to Sept. 14 at Poker Palace and carries more than 40 tournaments with close to A$2,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools. The supporting line-up includes the A$360 Mini Irish Open, the A$880 Lucky 8’s, a A$360 Deaf Championship and the A$880 Sydney Poker Open.
The Irish Open is treating Sydney as the launch point for its new Irish Open International series. The series has roots back to 1980, and this is the first time it has moved outside Europe.
The Main Event’s road to Sydney started in April with a remote Day 1 in Dublin. Four players advanced from that session, with Oliver Hutchins leading the qualifiers and series ambassador Chris Dowling among them. The schedule also says Dowling continued his Main Event campaign with 275,000 chips. The schedule also says 18 super satellites at Poker Palace are guaranteeing 170 Main Event seats.
As covered in August, Sydney is also due to host a separate WPT festival from Sept. 10-30, adding another big poker run to the city’s calendar.
