Wai Kiat Lee Leads Triton Jeju II Opening Event Into Day 2
The $15,000 NLH 8-Handed had 28 players left from 204 entries and a $642,000 top prize.
The opening event at Triton Jeju II moved into Day 2 on Saturday with Wai Kiat Lee out front in the $15,000 NLH 8-Handed. Only 28 players were still alive from a 204-entry field, and the tournament had built a $3.09 million prize pool with $642,000 set aside for the champion.
As covered in our earlier Jeju preview, Triton is back at Les A Casino in South Korea for another stop in the series. The event burst the bubble late on Day 1, so every returning player was already locked up for at least $25,500.
PokerNews had Lee leading the final 28 on 3.5 million chips. Punnat Punsri sat second with 3,465,000, and Alexandros Theologis was third on 3,215,000. Bernhard Binder and Adrian Mateos rounded out the top five.
The last stretch also still included several other big names, among them Nick Petrangelo, Jesse Lonis, Daniel Dvoress and Xuan Liu. The field was set to keep playing toward a final table and then a winner.
There was some continuity at the top of the counts. PocketFives had Lee among the top 10 when 52 players remained, with Daniel Rezaei leading that stage on more than 3 million chips. That outlet also reported Rezaei ahead earlier, when 101 players were left and he had more than 1.37 million.
Play in the $15,000 event was due to resume at 1 p.m. local time, with the live stream starting at 2 p.m. The festival’s second event, a $20,000 NLH 8-Handed, was set for 3 p.m., and Triton Fantasy began on Day 2 with more than $33,000 in prizes.
