Adda52 Concludes DPT Super High Roller Series

India’s largest online poker room, Adda52 recently concluded the second edition of its prestigious live tournament series the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Colossus Super High Roller Series.

The main highlight of the series was the 2 LAC ($2850) Main Event boasting a 1 Crore ($142,865) guaranteed prize pool.

The tournament attracted some of India’s best poker players including the likes of Aditya Agarwal —a member of PokerStars Team Pro, WSOP Bracelet winner Nikita Luther, Kunal Patni—Adda52’s Team Pro and several others.

In the end, it was Agarwal who took down the Main Event after outlasting a field of 42 entries to take home 31 LAC ($44,290) for his efforts.

Agarwal is a veteran poker player and a known face in the Indian poker community. Online poker giant PokerStars signed him as India’s first ambassador in 2015, and since then he has been attending major live tournaments nationally and internationally. He is currently ranked number three on the Indian all-time money list with over $1 million in live poker cashes.

The 4-day series was held from May 2 to 5 at India’s biggest floating Casino, Deltin Royale in Goa, one of few states in India to allow live gambling.

Goa is one of only a handful of a couple of states in India where gambling is legal. It is one of the major attractions for poker players from across the country and has hosted several live tournaments in the past.

However, in 2013, news broke that a 30.9% Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) would be mandatorily applied on players’ winnings with no deduction of losses or adjustments applicable as per the Section 194B of Income Tax Act. This led to the downfall of the live poker scene in the country with many players opting to play on online poker sites.

Since then a number of Indian-facing poker sites emerged including PokerStars India, with Adda52 leading the pack in terms of cash game traffic.

Not just poker but there has also been a proliferation of other online skill-based games such as Rummy, Fantasy Sports, Bridge, etc.
