Texas Card House Houston has added an extra security guard on duty around the clock after at least four Houston-area poker rooms were robbed in roughly a month. The club was not among the venues reported hit, but kept the added guard in place to protect players, staff and the business while investigations continued.

PokerNews reported the security change, describing a run of recent robberies that appeared to be a serial-robbery situation. Police had not confirmed that the cases were connected, however, and no arrests had been reported as of the latest coverage.

The most recent reported incident was at Capri Poker Club in Webster, about 25 miles from downtown Houston. More than a dozen armed robbers entered the 20-table room and demanded money. Reports differ on the timing of that robbery: PokerNews placed it about a week before its report, while Legal US Poker Sites described it as occurring in late October.

Spades Poker House in Baytown and Empire Poker Club were also among the rooms targeted. Capri said surveillance video appeared to show someone who may have been involved in the Spades robbery, creating a possible link between those two cases, but authorities had not verified any connection.

The latest incidents came after earlier security concerns involving Houston poker players, though they were a different type of crime. In 2025, authorities said a suspect crew could be tied to as many as 20 follow-home robberies involving poker-room patrons, including at least 17 linked to Lucky J’s Social Club. Four men were arrested after a 70-year-old Lucky J’s patron was followed home and attacked.

Texas Card House has also faced a separate robbery attempt at a north Harris County location in 2023. A security officer was shot seven times during a gun battle and survived; no customers were injured.

Capri Poker Club plans to move around the start of 2027 because its lease is ending, not because of the robbery.
