Nik Airball Starts Needling Negreanu Before HCL Debut
The Hustler Casino Live regular said the poker star will either tighten up and survive or splash around and bust in the $100/$200 game
Nik Airball was already needling Daniel Negreanu more than a week before the poker legend’s Hustler Casino Live debut. Airball told PokerNews he expects Negreanu to “nit it up and survive, or play some hands and die” when the Canadian sits in the $100/$200 game.
As reported on Aug. 18, Hustler Casino Live had already set Negreanu’s first appearance for Aug. 28 in a $100/$200 no-limit hold’em cash game with a $50,000 minimum buy-in. At that point, the rest of the lineup had not been announced, and Negreanu was the only player confirmed for the table.
PokerNews describes Airball as the “King of LA” and a regular on Hustler Casino Live, and says he is almost exclusively a high-stakes cash game player. The site also calls him the winningest player in HCL history, and notes that he has taken shots at tournament grinders before, including a February post in which he said, “tourney players all suck, this is free money if I ever seen it!”
Negreanu’s return is drawing attention because he is one of poker’s biggest names and an eight-time WSOP bracelet winner. PokerNews says he is fresh off a strong 2026 World Series of Poker and has mostly lived on the tournament circuit for years, with only occasional detours into cash games. PokerStrategy added that he was stepping back into the cash-game arena for the first time in two years after his appearance on No Gamble, No Future, where he dropped an $83,600 pot when ace-queen ran into Phil Hellmuth’s pocket aces.
The hype around the debut has also been visible on HCL itself. PokerNews reports that Hustler Casino Live’s X announcement introduced Negreanu as a “poker legend” and GGPoker ambassador, with an AI-generated video that HCL regulars sang over, and that Negreanu shared the clip and called it “sooooo ridiculous.”
