Carson Wieland Wins Choctaw Main Event for First WSOP Circuit Ring
The win came from a 1,117-entry field at Choctaw, with Wieland topping Alexander Ho heads-up for $268,245
Carson Wieland won the WSOP Circuit Choctaw Main Event, earning his first Circuit ring and $268,245 after beating a field of 1,117 entries at Choctaw Casino and Resort.
The Event #14 $1,700 No Limit Hold’em Main Event carried a $1 million guarantee, but the prizepool climbed to $1,692,255 and paid the top 168 finishers. Poker.org described the win as the largest score of Wieland’s career.
Wieland said he had built momentum through Day 2 and came into the final table with an above-average stack. He started the table fifth in chips, but felt the dynamics were working for him rather than the other way around. He also had some history of coming close before, including multiple Circuit final tables, and his previous cash in this event was $4,380 in January.
Heads-up, Alexander Ho held the lead at the start, but Wieland fought back. In Poker.org’s instant recap, one key hand saw Ho limp the button, Wieland raise from the blinds and Ho shove about 15 million, only for Wieland’s eights to hold and give him a massive double. Another hand later in the match had Ho limp again, Wieland jam about 9 million, and the full double narrowed the gap further.
SpadePoker also reported that Wieland doubled his stack twice to seize the heads-up lead. In its card-by-card rundown of the finish, Ho turned over ace-king against Wieland’s pocket fours, the flop gave Wieland a full house, Ho picked up a live royal flush draw on the turn, and the river blanked to end it.
The run had a loud rail behind it. A big group of friends cheered every major pot, and Wieland said his wife was home with their four children while he chased the title.
Wieland said the score would not change his life, but it would mean a little less stress.
