The Gateway Sets Sept. 18 Poker Fundraiser in Brookhaven
The inaugural Texas Hold’em night at Painters’ Restaurant starts with cocktails at 6 p.m. and cards at 7 p.m.
The Gateway is launching a new Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament Fundraiser on Sept. 18 at Painters’ Restaurant in Brookhaven. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. and game action begins at 7 p.m., giving the arts nonprofit a new fundraiser built around poker and prizes.
An AAQ East End bulletin described the event as the inaugural Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament and said it is aimed at supporting the future of live theatre and arts education on Long Island. The posting says the night is meant to feature poker, friendly competition, food, drinks, prizes and fun, and that it welcomes seasoned players, casual players and first-time players alike.
The Gateway says players who run low on chips will be able to add another $100 buy-in during the tournament. It also says proceeds from “All In for the Arts” will benefit The Gateway Playhouse and its mission, including creating professional productions, nurturing the next generation of artists and keeping live performance accessible.
The organization describes itself as Long Island’s flagship 501©(3) nonprofit arts institution, with more than 76 years of Broadway-caliber productions and performing-arts education behind it. The tournament posting sums up the pitch with the line, “When you play, the arts win.”
