Germany’s mr.diego97 won 888poker’s latest $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event after two days of play, beating a 779-entry field and collecting $7,842. The $109 event ended with a river call in heads-up play, and the champion kept himself near the top of the count for most of the final table.
He reached the eight-handed final table fourth in chips with 34 big blinds, then won a few sizeable pots early. From there, he never fell lower than second in chips before closing out the title.
The bounty side of the event had mostly been decided before the final table began. All of the big mystery bounties had already been claimed on Day 1, including an $8,000 jackpot bounty that ended up in BandeDePitre’s account. mr.diego97 came in with $1,073 in bounties, while cologne97 had already banked $3,996.
Malte64 was the first finalist out, three-betting all in with king-jack and running into cologne97’s ace-seven of diamonds. Mayanking followed about 15 minutes later after c0rbl1meyguv flopped top set with pocket jacks and left Mayanking drawing dead on the turn.
Tsokhla then tried to survive with pocket fours, but c0rbl1meyguv’s queen-six made a runner-runner straight after Tsokhla had flopped a set. Arrivider4i was next to go, open-shoving for 12 big blinds with pocket nines and running into KARNA1983’s pocket kings, which left only four players after 30 minutes of final-table action.
The next major swing came shortly after a scheduled break. mr.diego97 flopped trip aces and improved to quads on the river, while c0rbl1meyguv made a full house when the third ace arrived. After calling a river raise, c0rbl1meyguv was left with 13 big blinds.
Heads-up against c0rbl1meyguv, the chip lead changed hands several times. mr.diego97 went into the break with a 55.7-to-27.8 big-blind edge, the stacks later evened out, and then he built a bigger lead before the finish.
The final hand brought the title home. mr.diego97 raised with five-four and KARNA1983 called with seven-six. The board ran out eight-ace-four, then an offsuit queen on the turn, and another eight on the river. KARNA1983 over-bet shoved 12.3 big blinds into an 8.7 big blind pot, and mr.diego97 tanked before making the call that crowned him champion.
The result also fits into a short run of 888poker Mystery Bounty Main Events that had been drawing fields under the guarantee.
