Dan “Jungleman” Cates has announced Pokerworld: At the Table with Cheats & Saints, a memoir written with Washington Post journalist Rick Maese. The book is scheduled for publication on May 4, 2027, by Matt Holt Books, with Simon & Schuster distributing it.

The 208-page book is listed at about $28 by retailers including Amazon and Target, and preorders were available. Simon & Schuster said the memoir will “pull back the curtain on the quirky, high-pressure universe” that made Cates one of poker’s most unconventional high-stakes players.

PokerNews reported that the book follows Cates from his early online poker years into private games around the world. Cates’s account includes his path from an online heads-up specialist before age 22 to high-stakes games in Las Vegas, Macau and Montenegro.

Pokerworld is framed as an anecdotal memoir rather than a strategy manual. It examines decision-making with incomplete information, uncertainty, downswings and unexpected crises, while drawing lessons for business and life from discipline and emotional control.

The book also promises accounts of controversial moments and opponents from Cates’s professional career. Its title points to the “cheats” and “saints” of poker’s high-stakes world, while the publisher’s description emphasizes humility over bravado.

Cates built his “Jungleman” name as an online screen name and became a leading heads-up hold’em player after beginning online as a teenager. Before turning 22, he had won more than $5 million in online heads-up games and played online opponents including Viktor Blom and Tom Dwan.

His later results include back-to-back victories in the $50,000 World Series of Poker Poker Players Championship in 2021 and 2022. He has also recorded more than $19 million in Hendon Mob live-tournament cashes and won $15 million in three consecutive heads-up matches against Ossi “Monarch” Ketola.
