Manuel Ferrari Takes the Lead Into EPT Barcelona Day 6
Criado and Carbo stay close behind as 13 players return with at least €81,350 locked up
Manuel Ferrari goes into Day 6 of the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event as the clear chip leader after Day 5 ended with 13 players left inside Casino Barcelona. Everyone still in has secured at least €81,350 from the €8,841,550 prize pool, and the winner will take home €1,370,050.
According to PokerNews, Ferrari is the only player to have crossed the eight-figure mark, finishing with 10,625,000 chips and 106 big blinds for the next day. He built that stack with a key pot against Matas Cimbolas, calling a big river check-raise bluff with second pair and moving past 10 million chips.
As covered in our Aug. 26 update, Jose Criado had already taken the overnight lead when the field reached 28, but Ferrari passed him on Day 5. Criado heads into Day 6 second with 8,950,000, while Gerard Carbo is close behind on 8,325,000.
Day 5 trimmed the field quickly from the start. Eight players were gone in the opening level, cutting the count from 28 to 20, and the list of exits included Day 2 chip leader Grzegorz Kozieja, Sebastian Malec in 21st, Alexandru Toderita in 20th, Fabricio Nociolini, Vinicius Goncalves and Eduardo Kalil, who finished 16th for €56,600.
John Juanda was the next big name to fall, taking €67,800 for 15th after Criado’s pocket fives held, and Arnaud Enselme was the last player knocked out to leave the event at 13-handed. With Juanda out, Nicolas Chouity is the only former EPT Main Event champion still in contention, and the 13 survivors return to Casino Barcelona at noon local time for Day 6 on Level 29, with blinds of 50,000/100,000 and a 100,000 big blind ante.
