Romanian Getoverhere Wins 888poker Mystery Bounty Main Event

The $109 event drew 776 entries, overlaid its guarantee slightly, and wrapped up with a six-minute heads-up finish.

Romanian player “getoverhere” won 888poker’s $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event after coming to the final table with fewer chips than the leader and still running it down. The $109 buy-in tournament drew 776 entries, including re-entries, and ended with only a slight overlay on the guarantee.

888poker’s own promo page describes mystery bounties as a format where each player is assigned a random bounty, a mystery envelope appears when the phase begins, and eliminating an opponent wins that prize. In other words, players can pick up bounty money even if they do not win the event itself.

The mystery bounties kicked in at the start of Level 18. One of the more eye-catching runs belonged to Costa Rica’s “estebanss12,” who finished 22nd for $232 after knocking out three opponents while the bounties were live.

Those three bounty hits included the minimum envelope of $28.02, plus prizes of $3,200 and $8,000. PokerNews said the three bounty payouts totaled $11,516, which was more than $3,600 above what the eventual champion collected from the tournament result alone.

“LeoJoseCarne” started fifth in chips with 28 big blinds, but lost a big chunk of the stack in queens-versus-jacks against “MichaelBusto” and never recovered. “morgan33332” later fell after getting in for 10 big blinds with ace-jack against “getoverhere’s” pocket queens, leaving four players.

From there, “TreeOML14” was knocked out in a blind-versus-blind clash with “getoverhere,” who called a near-14-big-blind shove with pocket queens and held through the river. That set up a heads-up match against “simenuts” after “MichaelBusto” was sent out on a jack-ten versus king-queen all-in that gave “getoverhere” two pair on the turn.

“getoverhere” took a big lead into the final duel, holding 71.4 big blinds to 11.7 for “simenuts.” The match was over six minutes after heads-up play began, when “simenuts” jammed with jack-eight, “getoverhere” called with ace-three of spades, and the all-spade flop left “simenuts” drawing to a runner-runner full house before they were drawing dead on the turn.

The next $109 buy-in, $80,000 guaranteed Mystery Bounty Main Event is set to shuffle up and deal at 6:00 p.m. BST on Aug. 2, with satellites starting at $0.10.
