Ignition Launches $6.5 Million Players’ Championship
The online series mixes themed weekends, early Sunday starts and a player-voted closing event.
Ignition Poker has launched The Players’ Championship, a new online tournament series with $6.5 million in guaranteed prize money. The promotion is built around themed weekends, a Warmup Week satellite period and a Players’ Choice event that lets players help shape part of the schedule.
As covered in earlier reports on this summer’s busy online poker calendar, Ignition is leaning on big guarantees and player-facing promos to make the series stand out. Card Player said the festival runs Aug. 23-Sept. 13, while Ignition’s own tournament page lists the main schedule through Sept. 6.
The opening weekend on Aug. 23 features non-PKO tournaments alongside Mystery KO events. PKO Weekend follows on Aug. 30 with progressive knockout tournaments, including PKO Main Events and re-entry side events, and Main Event Weekend lands on Sept. 6 with the flagship Main Event, a Mini Main, PKO, Mystery KO and High Roller.
Ignition says the series was built from player feedback, with changes to Sunday start times, tournament structures and registration periods. The site says Main Events start at 1 p.m. ET, earlier than Ignition’s usual 4 p.m. ET Sunday slot, and Warmup Week runs Aug. 9-22 with satellites that award tickets into Players’ Championship Main Events.
Warmup Week also includes a Flip Freeroll for players who bust eligible events before the money, with Sunday Main Event seats up for grabs the next day. The community-driven piece is the Players’ Choice Tournament, which has an $11 buy-in, a $5,000 guarantee and another $15,000 added by Ignition, with players voting on the format through social media. The winning format will be played as part of the closing Super Sunday.
