Jamie Shaevel Exits WSOP Main Event in Seventh
The Los Angeles cash game pro shoved K♥6♥ into chip leader Lucas Jumalon’s K♦10♥ and missed his draw.
Jamie Shaevel’s run at the WSOP Main Event final table ended in seventh place on Tuesday, good for $1.5 million. The remaining six players were each guaranteed at least $1.75 million.
According to PokerNews, about 45 minutes into the session, with the big blind at 3 million, Shaevel raised to 10 million from the cutoff with K♥6♥ and left just over one big blind behind. Lucas Jumalon, who had remained in front entering the remainder of the final table action, called from the big blind with K♦10♥.
The flop came 7♠4♣4♥. Shaevel moved the rest in with a gutshot straight draw, but the turn and river did not help him.
Shaevel said leaving a chip behind was deliberate. He explained that if a “crazy spot” developed behind him and two stacks got involved, he wanted to keep the option for them to “duke it out.”
He had cashed eight times in the Main Event since 2011 before this run. He said it was “pretty hard to sum up” the experience, and described the final-table stretch as a day and a half of excitement, pressure, stress, and constant cheering.
