Jumalon Keeps WSOP Main Event Lead as Field Drops to Seven
Han Feng climbed from the short stacks to second, while Evagoras Evagorou and Mario Boos took the first two payouts.
Lucas Jumalon kept the chip lead as the WSOP Main Event final table shrank from nine players to seven in the opening session. He ended the night on 212 million chips, while Han Feng moved into second on 106.5 million.
The final table is the last act of a $10,000 no-limit hold’em championship that drew 9,208 entries and built an $85.6 million prize pool. The last seven were already locked up for at least $1.25 million, with $10 million set for first place.
Card Player reported that Jumalon bagged 212 million chips, though a late Review-Journal checkpoint had him at 204 million with eight players left. He entered the nine-handed table with about 194 million chips and 35% of the chips in play, briefly climbed over 213 million, and still led the field.
The first elimination came after almost three hours, when Evagoras Evagorou shoved pocket jacks into Jamie Shaevel’s ace-queen and an ace landed on the flop. Evagorou, the first player from Cyprus to reach the Main Event final table, took ninth for $1 million.
Mario Boos was next out in eighth for $1.25 million after pocket eights ran into Lauri Saaskilahti’s king-nine. That left Saaskilahti in third with 84.5 million, Rami Hammoud fourth with 45.5 million, Michael Gagliano fifth with 42 million, Jamie Shaevel sixth with 33 million and Greg Mueller shortest with 29.5 million.
Han Feng was the other major swing of the day. He started among the short stacks and moved to second with 106.5 million after a big pot against Saaskilahti.
