Yang Wang led the $200,000 Triton Invitational into its final 16 after winning the bubble hand against Semi Sun at Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju II. The event drew 173 entries and built a $34.6 million prize pool, with 31 places paid, $305,000 locked up for everyone who made the money, and $7.25 million plus the Triton trophy waiting for the winner.
As covered in our earlier Jeju preview, the Invitational was part of Triton’s return to Les A Casino in South Korea for the series’ Asian debut there. Poker.org described the event as a record 60 VIP-professional pairings, and Day 2 began with 94 survivors from Day 1 plus 18 late registrants for 112 players total. Late registration was still open when play resumed and the prize pool had not yet been finalized.
The bubble hand was the big swing of the day. One PokerNews recap said Semi Sun had a top-three stack on the bubble, then moved all-in on the river as a bluff and ran into Wang’s full house. That same recap said Wang had been at risk himself minutes earlier before doubling with pocket aces and turning into the table leader.
After the bubble burst, play continued until 16 remained. Wang bagged 7.31 million chips, Hannes Jeschka finished second on 5.84 million, and Emilien Pitavy sat third with 4.18 million. Adrian Mateos, the most recent Triton Invitational champion, stayed in contention with 3.575 million, while each survivor was guaranteed $460,000. The 16 survivors were due back for Day 3 at 1 p.m. local time, with 35 minutes left in Level 23 and blinds of 50,000/125,000 with a 125,000 big blind ante.
