WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event Sets C$13.08 Million Record
The $5,000 event drew 2,844 entries at Playground and broke through its C$10 million guarantee by more than C$3 million.
The inaugural WSOP Super Circuit Canada Main Event at Playground finished with 2,844 entries and a C$13,082,400 prize pool. The $5,000 buy-in event beat its C$10 million guarantee by C$3,082,400, and Spadepoker described it as the largest prize pool in WSOP Circuit Main Event history.
As covered in late August, the debut Super Circuit stop at Playground opened with more than C$14 million in guarantees and 18 ring events. WSOP.com said the festival had already generated about C$5.78 million in prize pools through the opening events, and the Main Event pushed the running total to at least C$18,862,400.
The Main Event used three separate starting flights, each followed by its own Day 2, a structure that helped organizers handle the huge turnout. All three branches came together for the first time on Day 3, with play continuing in 90-minute levels and full payouts, including the champion’s prize, still to be confirmed.
The field still included Daniel Negreanu, Michael Mizrachi, Mike Leah and Griffin Benger when Day 3 got underway. Poker.org said Mario Lemieux led the overall stack counts going into the day, while Negreanu and Mizrachi both sat well above average with 89 and 87 big blinds.
The staggered Day 2 flights left 177 players advancing to Day 3. Poker.org also noted that Day 1A drew 851 entries, setting a new Canadian record for a single $5,000 buy-in flight, while Day 1C added 830 more. The broader Super Circuit Canada stop is set to run through Sept. 12.
