Sam Soverel Wins 17th PokerGO Tour Title in PGT PLO Mystery Bounty

Soverel beat Robert Cowen for $250,000 less than a week after claiming his record-extending 16th PGT trophy.

Sam Soverel has won the $15,700 PGT PLO Series Event No. 6, a pot-limit Omaha mystery bounty tournament, for $250,000. He defeated Robert Cowen heads-up to claim his 17th PokerGO Tour title, extending his all-time record.

The latest win arrived less than a week after Soverel collected title No. 16 in a $5,300 PLO event worth $122,850. As we reported in September, that earlier PGT PLO Series victory had moved Soverel three trophies clear of Alex Foxen.

Card Player reported that the new title has widened that margin to four: Soverel has 17 PGT wins, while Foxen remains second on the all-time list with 13. The 38-year-old, a four-time WSOP bracelet winner, now has more than $33.8 million in recorded career cashes.

The Event No. 6 field produced 46 entries and a $460,000 prize pool, with another $230,000 allocated to mystery bounties. Those bounty prizes became available once 10 players remained, and Sean Winter pulled the largest, worth $100,000, late on Day 1.

Winter ultimately finished fourth for $48,500, bringing his combined payout and bounty haul to $148,500. Soverel then built a lead, having eliminated Brevin Andreadis on the money bubble with a runner-runner straight and taken out Eelis Parssinen in fifth after flopping the nut straight against pocket aces.

At the seven-handed final table, Soverel held roughly twice the chips of Cowen and Winter. Joao Simao was first out in the money in seventh for $19,000, followed by Sean Rafael in sixth for $27,500, Parssinen for $37,000, Winter and then Steve Zolotow, who collected $67,000 in third after Cowen made a jack-high straight on the river.

Cowen, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner and Triton Super High Roller champion, took $141,000 for second. Soverel closed it out by making a flush on the river in the final hand.

The win earned Soverel 192 PokerGO Tour points, moving him to 14th in the season standings. Winter’s fourth-place finish gave him 58 points and a seven-point lead over Parssinen, who had entered the event atop the leaderboard and received 44 points for fifth. The top 40 players at season’s end qualify for the $1 million PokerGO Tour Championship.
