WSOP Circuit Calgary Stop Expected to Draw Nearly 9,000 Entries Ahead of $2 Million Main Event
Deerfoot Inn & Casino hosts 18 events through Oct. 12, with Mike Leah, DJ Sharma and other Canadian players in the field.
The WSOP Circuit is at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary through Oct. 12, with an 18-tournament schedule expected to produce nearly 9,000 entries. Its $2,300 Main Event is projected to attract more than 1,000 entries and build a prize pool above $2 million.
GlobeNewswire reported that GGPoker presents the 12-day stop, which brings professional, emerging and recreational players from Canada and beyond into contention for prize money and WSOP Circuit gold rings. The Main Event sits at the center of a schedule that also includes the $400 Big 30 Stack, Mystery Bounty, Mini Main Event, Monster Stack, H.O.R.S.E. 8-Max and a $3,500 High Roller.
Other events include mixed NLH/PLO, bounty, seniors, ladies and PLO tournaments. The Main Event has three starting flights, while two other multi-flight events have four and three, respectively.
The field includes Innisfil, Ontario’s Mike Leah, who has nearly US$9.8 million in live tournament earnings and plays online as GoLeafsGoEh. Leah won his third WSOP bracelet on GGPoker the week before the Calgary series and followed it with another deep run in a separate bracelet event.
Other Alberta players named for the series include Calgary native Haven Taylor, Edmonton’s DJ Sharma and Kevin Martin, known as KMart. Sharma finished 78th in the 2026 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. British Columbia player Gregory Liow, who plays as Greg Goes All In, is also in the field.
WSOP bracelet winners Pei (Jerry) Li, Jaspal (Paul) Brar, Homan Mohammad and Christopher Alcindor are among the entrants. GGPoker is also offering exclusive satellites and Ontario freerolls that give players a route into the series and a chance at a Circuit ring.
As covered in August, the Canadian live-poker calendar also featured the first WSOP Super Circuit Canada stop at Playground in Kahnawake, underlining the recent run of major WSOP-branded events in the country.
