Bridgeport Charity Poker Tournament Brings Kathy Liebert to Support Jewish Federation

The Oct. 18 event at Circolo Sportivo has a 150-player cap, with entries starting at $150.

The Jewish Federation of Fairfield County will hold a charity poker tournament at Circolo Sportivo in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Oct. 18, with professional player Kathy Liebert scheduled to lead a strategy discussion and join the field. The event is open to all players and is capped at 150 entries.

Dinner begins at 5 p.m. at the venue, 2500 Park Ave., followed by the tournament at 6:30 p.m. A full-evening entry costs $250, including dinner, drinks and the tournament buy-in. Players can enter the tournament without the dinner-and-drinks package for $150.

The Jewish Ledger reported that local attorney Michael Rosnick organized and sponsored the event. Rosnick is with Bridgeport firm Miller, Rosnick, D’Amico, August & Butler, PC.

The event is intended to bring together community members and poker players while raising support for Israel. The source identifies the beneficiary as the Jewish Federation of Greater Fairfield County, a registered 501©(3), and says funds will support local Jewish life, social services and cultural institutions as well as overseas aid.

Rosnick’s involvement was shaped by trips he made to Israel after the Oct. 7, 2023, outbreak of the war. He said he visited the Nova Music Festival grounds, ravaged kibbutzim and met with hostages, soldiers and survivors. Funds raised are intended in part to address trauma and help Israeli young people experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder.

Liebert brings extensive tournament experience to the dinner session. PokerOrg lists her with 27 tournament wins, more than $7 million in career cashes and a World Series of Poker bracelet. She ranks third on the women’s all-time money list and was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in 2010.

Tournament proceeds will be distributed as prize money and/or used for entry fees for the World Series of Poker or WSOP satellite events. Sponsorship and registration information is available through the Shalom Connecticut calendar listing for the tournament hosted by Rosnick.
