Canada’s MrYoungShark Wins 888poker Mystery Bounty Main Event for $15,371
The Canadian carried a 74-big-blind final-table lead into a victory just before the XL Autumn Series begins.
Canada’s MrYoungShark won 888poker’s $109 Mystery Bounty Main Event on Sept. 14, beating a 683-entry field for $15,371 including bounties. The turnout was among the tournament’s lowest since 888poker reduced its guarantee from $100,000 to $80,000, and the regular edition overlaid the $80,000 guarantee by 117 entries.
MrYoungShark began the eight-handed final table with a commanding lead of 2.95 million chips, equal to 74 big blinds and more than twice PokerStrive’s second-place stack. The middle of the table was much tighter: kojgysto888 had 29 big blinds in third, while BigFish20 had 25 in seventh. Short stack 3pokeronly started with 13 big blinds and ultimately finished fifth for $1,637.
BigFish20 was eliminated eighth for $907, the only finalist to receive less than four figures from the $80,000 prize pool. Sugarrush2 collected $1,107 and Dimiasikk888 earned $1,903, while PokerStrive exited fourth for $3,172 and Denmark’s kojgysto888 took third for $3,680.
The Canadian reached heads-up play against Lithuania’s MantynisNA having already accumulated more than $8,000 in mystery bounties. MrYoungShark finished the job for the title, while MantynisNA received $6,027.
The result follows our Aug. 25 report on kingsluvan’s win in an earlier running of the same regular Mystery Bounty Main Event. In this format, eliminating an opponent during the bounty phase awards a randomized secret cash prize in addition to normal tournament payouts.
The win came days before 888poker’s XL Autumn Series begins Sept. 20. The nine-day festival runs through Sept. 29, has 41 numbered events and nearly $900,000 in guarantees, with 26 events using mystery bounties. Its $109 Mystery Opening Event begins at 6 p.m. BST on Sept. 20 with a reinstated $100,000 guarantee, after the regular event’s guarantee had been reduced to $80,000.
The series also includes a $250 Mystery Main Event with a $300,000 guarantee and a $25 Mystery Mini Main with a $50,000 guarantee. Main Event Day 1 flights began Sept. 13 and continue through Sept. 28, before the final table is streamed on 888poker TV’s Twitch channel Sept. 29.
