Dan Smith’s Annual Charity Drive Returns

From November 27 until December 29 Dan Smith is back at the helm of his annual charity DoubleUpDrive.

For every donation made to ten hand picked charities of Dan and his team’s choice, they will match donations up to a total of $1,140,000.

Last year the campaign raised over $4.5 million for these charities. So far over $100,000 has already been raised by the charity drive for 2018.

Over on his blog, Dan goes into more detail about what drives him to run this initiative each year.

“I’ve gone through several existential crises about my future as a poker player, mostly being uncomfortable playing a negative sum game which doesn’t contribute to society. Largely in part due to this drive, all those concerns have dissipated. I still genuinely love to play poker, and am thrilled that due to this drive, I can use my favorite thing to make a tremendous impact on the world” Dan said in this blog post.

WATCH: Joey Ingram’s Take On The Pitch Black Bathroom Prop Bet

Joey Ingram breaks his social media hiatus to bring us his thoughts on a recent prop bet that is happening over in Las Vegas at the moment.

First put on the radar by our very own Nick Jones the prop bet will see a poker player enter a pitch black room for 30 days where he will have no human interaction in the hopes of winning $100,000.

For a more detailed round up of what the bet includes and whether Joey thinks this guy can do it, check out the video below. FWIW, for me, this is what actual nightmares are made of.

Liv Boeree’s Walk Down Memory Lane

PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree has revisited her old high school in the UK to give a talk to the current students, to highlight the joys of studying Maths and Science.

It is not the first time Boeree has made science cool, as her Facebook show Amazing Science Adventures did that for us.

But as everyone knows by now Boeree is many things; a physicist, metal-head and poker pro to name a few. She can now add 'speaker’ to that list too.

As well as speaking at her old school, Boeree has recently given inspirational Ted and Ted X talks about the power of logical thinking and how poker can be used to improve decision making.

Boeree is also one of the founders of the REG charity, the cornerstone of which is based in effective altruism, so it comes as no surprise her school would welcome her back to inspire the next generation of students.
